MagBio’s New Long-Read Sequencing Technology: SFD-HT

SFD-HT (Short Fragment Depletor – High Throughput) is a patent-pending, tunable, paramagnetic bead-based reagent technology that optimizes input DNA for long-read sequencing workflows. By selectively depleting short DNA fragments, SFD-HT increases average read length and maximizes sequencing efficiency in complex genomic applications. Designed for both manual and automated use, it enables seamless implementation from benchtop research to high-throughput processing. SFD-HT is compatible with Oxford Nanopore Technologies (ONT), PacBio, and emerging long-read sequencing platforms, and is available for early evaluation and OEM integration discussions.

By depleting short DNA fragments, SFD-HT enriches samples for the high-integrity, long DNA fragments essential for a range of advanced genomic applications, including:

  • Structural Variant Analysis: Enabling long contiguous reads that span large deletions, duplications, inversions, and complex rearrangements often missed with shorter fragments.
  • De Novo Genome Assembly: Enriching for the long DNA fragments needed to resolve repetitive regions and support chromosome-scale contiguity in complex genomes.
  • Cancer Genomics Research: Supporting detection of large-scale genomic alterations and fusion events by enriching for fragments that span structural breakpoints.
